Meiosis Animation

Here I post a link to watch a meiosis animation.

John Kyrk's Meiosis Animation

Task: Compare and contrast mitotic cell division to meiosis. Make a post explaining what they have in common and how they are different. (2 Extracredits)

Mitosis and Meiosis :
*One parent cell
*Divide by cicle cell
DIFFERENT
MITOSIS
*one divition
*Get two cell
*Identicall than the parent

MEIOSIS
*Two divition
*4 daughter cell
*Half chromosome than the parent
*differents

Hi Daniela,
thank you for your post. Please, take time to remake your comment in a paragraph that includes complete sentences. Check the spelling if you are not sure about some words. I am looking forward to reading your new post.

The difference between Meiosis and Mitosis is that Meiosis has two cell divisions and Mitosis has one. Mitosis has two daughter cells and Meiosis has 4 daughter cells, and in Mitosis the daughter cells has the same chromosomes as the parents and Meiosis have half the amount of chromosomes and are different from the parent cell.

Similarities between Mitosis and Meiosis is that they both have the same goal which is creating a new cell.

Hi Elaine,
you're right. Let me tweak slightly your post saying the common goal is to produce new cells, instead of "a new cell".

Similarities of mitosis and meiosis:
-both are involved in DNA replication
-both have the same 5 phases
-both have the idea of producing a new cell
- Most of the time it happens in bacteria and plants
Differences:

*meiosis
-it require(fertilization)two parent which is the sperm and the egg.
-the dividing cells can only be diploid
-they have a mix of two organism

*Mitosis:
-it require only one parent
-their is no combination of chromosomes
-it has the function to produce new cell for those cell who are damage

Hi Julien,
Good thinking!

I have a few questions for you, though.

a. You said “Most of the time meiosis and mitosis happen in bacteria and plants”. Can you explain more about it.
b. You said “meiosis requires (fertilization)two parent”. Tell me more. What makes you think so.

Suggestion: go back to the comparation chart of mitosis versus meiosis. It will help you answering the main question of how meiosis and mitosis are similar and different.

I am looking forward to reading your new post. Think hard, please.

*one of example animal in meiosis is when the two female(egg) and male(sperm) combined together to make one organism which is call zygote, and this process is call meiosis and also fertilization

*one example of mitosis in animals/human/plant it when if a three has been hit by something and one of the parts of the three is mixing/ animal or humans is if the skin is opened. then after all that happens, mitosis will occur: it will produce new cell to replace the cell that were damaged and later on, we will see that after few month there will be no pieces mixing on the three and no skin open in the animal/human
